Lidl Smart Home

GOAL

Lidl launched the Smart Home lighting system in Finland during the darkest period of the winter to introduce people to its purpose, versatile product benefits, and availability. Pulp's objective was to design the product presentation suited for the brand's needs and provide user experiences to consumers.

SOLUTION

We found that demonstrating functionality does not necessarily require a typical home-like space for the consumer to understand how it works in an everyday home. The most important element was to provide the experience that the Smart Home system supports various mood lightings and that adjusting the lights is done using a mobile application. We designed a glass-walled container for Narinkkatori in Kamppi, The Light Box, and numerous unique visual elements inside it, to which we connected Lidl's Smart Home lighting. The Light Box was present at Narinkkatori for a week. The Jargoni podcast partnership helped kick off the event week, as they made their broadcast from the glass container. For the rest of the week, a promoter showcased various lighting solutions from the Light Box during the day, speaking into the microphone in a corona-friendly manner. When the Light Box was unmanned, the smart lighting was controlled remotely via an app and a camera connection.

RESULTS

During the gloomy season, the Light Box grabbed a lot of attention due to its light glow in the gray landscape. Although the beginning of the corona period had quieted Helsinki, over 100,000 people saw Lidl's Smart Home container and the lighting system inside. The promoter's actions allowed over 1200 individuals to learn more about the product.
